Leicester Remembrance Day Service and Parade
Event Dates
About this Event
The city’s main memorial event this year takes place on Sunday, November 12, at the War Memorial in Victoria Park.
About 4,000 people, including members of the public, armed forces, civic dignitaries and veterans, are expected to attend the event.
Proceedings will begin with a parade by veterans and contingents, from De Montfort Hall to the memorial.
The Remembrance Day service itself begins at 10.55am, for which members of the public need to be in place by 10.40am.
The service includes wreath laying from key dignitaries at the memorial and a selection of prayers from faith representatives within the city. To bring the service to a close, there will be a march past through the memorial, as the parade returns to De Montfort Hall. Spectators can line the grassed side of Coach Drive to watch the parade.
During the service, maroons will sound to mark the two minutes silence at 11am and again at 11.02am. Pet owners and parents of small children should be aware that the maroons are loud and may be frightening.
